Two new desserts offered tomorrow on our Food and Art Tour of the Atlanta BeltLine
We all know that the best part of travel is the food. Freshly made yogurt in Greece. Ropa vieja in Cuba. Tender, salty ham in Barcelona. Crispy baguette and gooey cheeses in France.
But what also sends me into sensory overload are the desserts. Patisseries in Paris. Or Belgian shops with chocolates lined up like jewels.
And that's why we have added two new dessert stops on our Food and Art Tours this spring. Starting tomorrow when we relaunch after our winter break, we are stopping at Xocolatl in Krog Street Market and Yay! Beignet on the Atlanta BeltLine.
Xocolatl imports their cacao beans from around the globe, then roasts them and turns them into chocolate bars right in their stall at Krog. They call it a micro-factory, and you can learn how the chocolate is made and taste a bite for yourself. This is not your average Hershey bar. This chocolate is rich and intense, and it lingers on your tongue. A little goes a long way.
The owners started their business after a trip to Costa Rica, where they fell in love with handmade chocolate. They brought Costa Rican cacao back to Atlanta and taught themselves how to make (amazing) chocolate, which they now sell at Krog Street Market on the Atlanta BeltLine.
Xocolatl (with ATL in the name) was one of the first stalls to open at Krog, and their chocolate is truly decadent.
Another addition to our tours is a New Orleans-style treat from Yay! Beignet, a relative newcomer to the BeltLine. What's so great about Atlanta's food scene is that it pulls from across the globe. While there is a definite trend toward Southern food, even a lot of fusion, you can find dishes from everywhere. And with so many New Orleans transplants here, ATLiens go crazy for NOLA food (and the Saints).
I love a good beignet, and they're not easy to find. These sweet fried dough pillows from Yay! Beignet are the perfect end to our Food and Art Tour. Add some chocolate dipping sauce, and they're heavenly.
